Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have intercepted an unregistered vehicle loaded with crystal methamphetamine, known as “ice,” and other hard drugs during a stop-and-search operation led by ASP Amos Ayuba in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Council, marking a major blow to drug trafficking.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal revealed the vehicle bore a fake, stolen number plate, highlighting the value of routine checkpoints. “All suspects connected with the case are now in custody while investigations continue,” Lawal stated, ordering a statewide crackdown on unmarked vehicles, cars with covered plates, unauthorized dealer plates, and masked motorcyclists.
The move follows intelligence reports of criminals using such disguises to infiltrate communities.
Lawal met with commercial motorcyclists to enforce compliance, sharing his contact for confidential tips, and warned against using bikes as crime covers.
The operation underscores efforts to enhance public safety, with the command urging residents to report suspicious activities while promising professionalism and accountability.
The seizure signals a proactive stance against drug networks, though challenges like identifying all involved parties persist as investigations unfold.
